About Scouts (1967)
We consider Scoutabout to be an important part of our work in our training of Scouts. We try to give them the opportunity for each of them to play a vital part in a team-effort and at the same time have the experience of standing on their own feet, so essential for preparation for life in the community.
This year the financial side of Scoutabout has been a real challenge in taking the decision to move to a larger Theatre. We are hoping that there will be sufficient balance to allow us to transfer to the 'World Jamboree' fund in order to support the Chester representatives in a manner outlined in the District Commissioners outlook.
The Supporting lay side of our Association decided to concentrate our fund-raising efforts on two main events this year. One was to be 'Scoutabout' the other a 'Fashion Show' held last Autumn. Because the appeal of this was limited, the support was also limited but the event did provide a useful start towards our Jamboree Fund target.
The work of the Chester Association is not confined to the preparation of 'Scoutabout' or Fund-raising. Far from it, for our Association is responsible for the provision of all the facilities whereby Scouting can continue, week by week throughout the year in the twenty two groups that form it. This is where the real work of Scouting is done ; and this point has been recognised in the Chief Scout's Advance Party's report received during the Autumn as a future basis for Scouting.
The complete training of officers, of the boys throughout the age groups, the provision of badge examiners, Camps, Parades, Hikes, Galas, and seasonal events, this, is our job for Scouting. Added to the regular work that takes place in troop rooms or in committee there have been, throughout the past year several events of note, some of which have been already mentioned. The ones that the youngest members of our movement will remember for a long time are those that have been held in connection with the Jubilee celebrations of the Wolf Cubs - now known as Cub-Scouts. Special competitions, visits, camps, and parties have kept these youngsters on their toes. Some through their ' Jubilee Birthday Cards' scheme have made friends with packs all over the world—so fitting for what also has been 'World Friendship Year'.
