Producer's Letter (2009)

I hope you "let us entertain you" until you "smile, smile, smile" again this year, our 53rd Chester Gang Show. This is our second at the new venue of the King's School Chester, following the closure of The Gateway Theatre in 2007 which had been our home since 1969!

Last year was a learning curve for us all, especially myself taking on the role of Producer and being at a new venue; I think my experience in 27 previous shows helped!! All the comments after our last show seemed to indicate that we had made the transition from the professional stage to a school stage without losing our long running "professionalism" and the show was a great success.

Never wanting to rest on our laurels, we have analysed the last show to (hopefully) make this one even better with improved lighting, scenery and technical support. We also held a "Gang Show Camp" for the first time (in October) and it was a great weekend away with the aim of "bonding" the Gang much earlier. This venture was helped enormously by the efforts of the newly formed Scout Network (Hollyoaks).

This show includes a good balance of some "Old favourites" right through to specially written and adapted items for the Gang by a number of our "in house" production team, without who's help and dedication Chester Gang Show would not be what it is today! We also herald another "first" as we welcome Chester and District Beavers into the Gang - not that there is "something fishy" about that! We wish them well and hope they have many happy years in Scouting (and Gang Show).

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the whole team, including Production, Technical, Wardrobe, Scenery and many others, but particularly the Gang who again have put their support and trust in me and as ever, have been fantastic to work with this year. Gang Show is the result of many people pulling together and putting in a tremendous amount of time and hard work. As a team event involving Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and leaders, Gang Show has no equal; it brings out the best in people and encourages personal development and self esteem in the true spirit of Scouting.

Finally, I must thank you, the audience, for your continued support - without you we simply would not be able to do it. So sit back and let the members of Chester and District Scout Gang Show entertain you.
