PROUD OF THE PAST - EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE

lt's a particular pleasure to send greetings to all Gang Show supporters in this, the centenary year of Chester and District Scouts!

The Gang Show has for many years been a key part of the life of Scouting in Chester, not just as an entertainment (thought it does that very well) but as a means of helping our young members to try out new experiences, to gain from them and to show to their family, friends and the general public how they have developed as a result. And it helps that it's great fun too!

But we shouldn't overlook the fact that the Show is only part of what we do in Scouting - which is to offer everyday adventure to as many young people as we can. Outdoor activities have always been the strong point for the Movement and this will not change. In Chester we are using our centenary to energise our programme. This year sees our latest District Camp on the Eaton Estate and also Chamboree, Cheshire's international camp at Tabley. And surrounding these major events will be a host of smaller ones, which will we hope be attractive to a wide audience. I look forward to seeing many of the supporters of the Gang Show at one or other of these events.

Scouting worldwide, nationally and locally has come a long way in the last one hundred years. The Movement has been a strong contributor to the wellbeing of the community wherever it is found, and here in Chester that has certainly been the case. We are proud of all that we have done and this year gives us an excuse (if one is needed!) to celebrate all that has been achieved. But we are also looking to the future, where Scouting will be shaped by young people in partnership with adults; will be as diverse as the community in which we live and will be enjoyed by more young people and by more adult volunteers. We want Scouts of all ages to feel empowered, valued and proud.

If we develop in this way, Scouting in Chester and everywhere else will continue to have a positive impact in our community, will prepare young people to be active citizens and will embrace and contribute to wider social change. This is why we are both proud of our past and excited about the future. So, Gang Show is why we are together at the moment but the Gang and their supporters are active throughout the year and all that they do will provide our members with great experiences, great fun and the chance to try new things. Thank you for all that you can do to help Scouting improve in quality and to reach more and more young people. Come and help us celebrate our centenary.

Producer's Letter (2010)

Welcome, for the third year now we are back at the King's School, Chester... So "let's get things started" with this our 54th Chester Gang Show helping to celebrate Chester and District's Centenary year, and while we "never forget" our past we look forward to the future.

Last year having settled into our new "home" and having learnt from the feedback the previous year, the Gang produced one of the best shows Chester and District have staged, and has even inspired our previous producer to come back onto the "team"!

As we help celebrate our District's Centenary, I hope you will find a good balance of some "old favourites" right through to specially written and adapted items for the Gang by a number of our "in house" production team, without who's help and dedication Chester Gang Show would not be what it is today! This year come "rain and shine" we welcome back for their second time Chester and District Beavers into the Gang, and I hope they brighten up your day. Also that you will agree with me, that by the time you come to leave, Scouting in Chester is indeed a "Great, Great, Game".

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the whole team behind Gang Show 2010, but particularly the Gang who again have been tireless in their enthusiasm and commitment, and as ever, have been fantastic to work with this year. Gang Show is the result of many people pulling together and putting in a tremendous amount of time and hard work. As a team event involving Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and leaders. Gang Show has no equal. It brings out the best in people and encourages personal development and self esteem in the true spirit of Scouting; it is what we need to inspire us so that Scouting in Chester remains vibrant for many years ahead.

Finally, I must thank you, our audience, for your continued support - without you we simply would not be able to do it. So "lets get things started", sit back and let the members of Chester and District Scout Gang Show take you "through the years".
