Producers Letter (2013)

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our 57th Chester Gang Show ....

Well someone has to do it!

The success of Chester Gang Show since 2008 when I was daft enough to take over as Producer has been incredible. I think it's "A Kind Of Magic" that works because of the unique teamwork effort by everyone involved both on and off stage.

I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to the whole team behind Gang Show 2013. I have to thank many, many people for their support and loyalty to the show and for giving the Gang the opportunity to carry on one of their annual Scouting activities which they clearly love to do. The Gang, who again have been as tireless in their enthusiasm and commitment as ever, have been fantastic to work with this year and are a credit to themselves and their Scout Groups.

This year why don't you "Dance With Me Tonight" and eventually see the Gang "Sing And Go Out Dancing" after they have been to "Paradise" and back and have had a "Right Royal Romp" with numerous "Kings and Queens"? Whilst we have "The Revue" of the show every year, it is "The Young Ones" who give so much of their time to commit to rehearsing for the past 16 weeks or so, giving them such fun and friendship. I hope "we'll do our best" for you tonight! What a "Great, Great, Game" - If you would like to be part of it in the future please get in touch.

The production team have worked tirelessly again to write items that the Gang have really enjoyed rehearsing and performing, and are always looking for a challenge and new ways of doing things. I hope you will ?nd a good balance of some “old favourites", right through to those specially written and adapted items for the Gang by a number of our “in house" production team without whose help and dedication, Chester Gang Show would not be what it is today!

It is with great sadness that I have to report that during the year, two of our previous Gang Show colleagues have passed away and “gone home"; Tim Dowson for many years our assistant musical director and rehearsal pianist and Dennis Burrows a previous Gang member and supporter for many years. Our thoughts are with their friends and families.

Following last year's show the Gang were asked if they would take part in two public events; the ?rst was performing two dance items from last year's show at the Brook Street Carnival where they had a great time and were very well liked and received. The second was to take part, along with many other dance groups from Cheshire, in "The Moment When..." on the Roodee, as part of the Olympic Torch relay celebrations. What an experience we all had being a part of that and performing in front of about 25,000 people. I was so very proud of each and every one of them, well done Gang!

Again this year we held another fun ?lled Gang Show camp based at a local outdoor education centre. My thanks go to our Gang Show active support members for their continued commitment and help with this event, which enables them to develop their singing and acting skills and to form lasting friendships with their peers.

Finally, I must thank you, our audience, for your continued support - without you we simply would not be able to do it, and give the young people the opportunity and experience they may otherwise never get. So, sit back and let the members of Chester and District Scout Gang Show brighten your day with singing, dancing and laughter.
